The word "reincarnation" derives from Latin literally meaning, "entering the flesh again".

My friend had a visualization yesterday morning in regards to the male soul who is attached to me.

Her guides presented her with the idea that this male spirit may not manifest himself as we are expecting.  In reincarnation, the returning soul can take a new form: from previously male to female, for instance.  This doesn’t mean the spirit is different.  It can take any form to accomplish its task.

Reasons for Reincarnation:

Hindus provide several reasons why the jiva (a living being) takes on various physical bodies.
  1. To complete one's unfinished sadhana  (literally "a means of accomplishing something"): When an aspirant making spiritual efforts for liberation from maya, dies without attaining his or her goal, the jiva gets as a natural cause-effect another human body to complete its sadhana.
